Integrating Patient-Reported Outcomes in Electronic Health Records

 A Users’ Guide

By Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD (May 2017) and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)

There is increasing interest in integrating patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in electronic health records (EHRs), but best practices for doing so are unclear. Recently, several meetings have reviewed the use of PROs in EHRs and identified barriers to routine collection of PROs for EHRs.

To facilitate the inclusion of PROs in the EHR, and address the barriers to doing so, a multidisciplinary team was formed to develop this “Users’ Guide for Integrating Patient-Reported Outcomes in Electronic Health Records.”

I'm a specialist in clinical outcome measurement and its impact on treatment effects and patients' quality of life across cultural boundaries. I help physicians and clinical researchers improve patients' lives by teaching best practices in measuring psychiatric and neurological states and traits, with thoughtful focus on specificity.
